In the latest episode of “Who Wants to Be a Casualty?”, the Gaza Strip has once again claimed its starring role, with Israeli airstrikes taking center stage in this tragicomedy we call geopolitics. Meanwhile, the West Bank and Lebanon are throwing in their scripts too, because why should Gaza have all the fun in this grim circus?

As humanity collectively scrolls through newsfeeds like it’s a gripping reality show, the irony thickens: while one side’s brainstorming their next “military strategy,” the other side is composing heartfelt tweets about the loss. Ah, the beauty of modern warfare—where tweets are an adequate substitute for empathy, and the only hashtags trending are #PrayForGaza and #Where’sThePeace?

One must marvel at the absurdity of it all—countries waging battles while the rest of the world busily posts gym selfies, completely missing the memo that their facial expressions should be more like the ones seen in a tragedy than a tailgate party. And just when you think it can’t get any more surreal, the dialogue continues, sounding suspiciously like dialogue from a poorly written soap opera: “How can they do this?!” while sipping organic lattes and watching the fallout with popcorn in hand.

So here we are, witnessing a kaleidoscope of life and death clashing before our eyes, like a bad art installation where the audience remains blissfully unaware of the actual tragedy unfolding behind the scenes. Isn’t it comforting to know that regardless of the rubble strewn about, humanity always finds a way to look the other way — or craft witty memes about it? Nothing says “serious global issue” like a trending TikTok dance, right?
