The only thing that seems capable of stopping Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels this season is the laws of physics—or possibly a spine-bending hit that may or may not resemble an angry bull charging at a matador.
Daniels, having the audacity to excel beyond our wildest dreams in a game of glorified tackle football, left the first quarter of Washington’s showdown with Carolina, courtesy of a rib injury. The Commanders, ever the drama queens, reported he’d been “ruled out,” which, given their season so far, might have been their way of saying he’s getting a well-deserved spa day. Frustrated, Jayden unleashed his inner child and hurled his helmet to the turf as if it had just insulted his mother. Backup Marcus Mariota, who was presumably lurking nearby, dutifully stepped in like a substitute teacher trying to regain control of a rowdy classroom.
Before his tragic encounter with the turf, Daniels was busy cementing his place in NFL history as one of the most statistically gifted quarterbacks ever, having rushed for 46 yards on the very first play. Not much for dramatic build-up, huh? He completed a breathtaking two passes for six yards, surely scoring wildly on the exciting play chart.
As a side note, Daniels—just that little hurdle away from winning the Heisman Trophy at LSU and the No. 2 pick in last year’s draft—has recorded 1,404 yards and six touchdowns, with only two interceptions. Yes, it’s like giving a toddler a candy store and standing back to marvel as they blissfully ignore the rules (and a few linebackers).
This circus is still unfolding. Please check back for further updates, as this roller coaster of chaos drags along unsuspecting fans.
